P-965 Tuner / Preamp / Processor

Our first Newcastle tuner/preamp/processor, the AVP-9080, garnered praise from the audio cognoscenti. Lawrence Johnson, Michael Fremer, Richard Hardesty, Jeff Cherun, Lawrence Ullman and Danny Kumin all sang its praise. Some said they would buy it. Some even did. Our P-965 improves upon the AVP in nearly every way. Crafted from the finest hand-selected components and designed by passionate audio engineers, its impressive decoding capabilities include virtually all of todays best technologies including: DTS-ES Discrete and Matrix; DTS 96/24, Dolby Digital EX and Pro Logic IIx; and Dolby Headphone to name only a few. With a built-in phono section, the ability to Re-Master CD sound to 192 kHz/24-bit, advanced Room-2 functionality; three wide-bandwidth component video inputs for switching Hi Def TV and two remote controls, the P-965 has the capability to satisfy today’s most ardent and advanced audiophile. And with the P-965’s “User Upgradability,” it’s probably one of the few pre-pro’s available today that will still be called “Advanced” in a decade. When Widescreen Review tested its predecessor, our AVP-9080, they said it,“easily equals or betters the performance of anything anywhere near its price range.” Expect nothing less from the P-965.

    The History of Sherwood

Sherwood Electronic Labs was founded in Chicago in 1953 to manufacture an amplifier designed by legendary audio engineer Ed Miller. Determined to design high performance audio gear and to manufacture it themselves, Miller and his partner John Snow created a company that has long set the standard for audio excellence and efficient manufacturing.

Constantly Improving the Sound of Sound

Throughout the evolution of advanced audio electronics, Sherwood's contributions have been invaluable. The world's first commercial FM stereo broadcast employed Sherwood technology. Sherwood was the first to introduce digital readout tuners and computer-controlled tuners. And, most significantly, the industry's first 100% all-silicon solid-state audio receiver came from Sherwood.

    Breaking Sound Barriers Ever Since

Today the company's leadership continues. Not only is the Sherwood brand synonymous with high performance audio worldwide, but it is an industry secret that Sherwood is the actual manufacturer of nearly one-third of the world's high performance receivers. Many of the products we build are available with brand names which may be better known than our own. But none are built with the same sense of pride as those that bear our own name, nor are any better built or better engineered than those that bear our Newcastle badge. Newcastle is the best we build for anyone.
